Dance in the new year at this black-tie optional event in the world-famous Casino Ballroom.

Plan now to attend the 41st Annual New Year's Eve Gala, Tuesday, December 31, 2013, in the world-famous Casino Ballroom. Entertainment will be provided by The Xceptional Music Company Rock Orchestra, featuring ten incredible musicians who have played with Wayne Newton, Art Neville, Kenny Loggins, and more. They will be bringing music from the "60's until now" with a few songs that harken back to the era of the big band to honor the great traditions of the Casino Ballroom. The Gala includes a buffet dinnerdancing, champagne split, one bottle of wine in a specially engraved bottle (#15 in a series), and party favors. A photographer will be onsite. A trio from the band will play during the dinner hour, and the full band will perform from 9:00 pm to 1:00 am. Coat & Tie are required; Black Tie is optional.

The festival highlights a diverse line up of local musicians, spectacular fireworks and great barbecue fare provided by Steve's Steakhouse and the Santa Catalina Island Company. Beer, wine and other refreshments will also be available for purchase. From rock to reggae, the music festival will showcase five local bands: the Catalina Island All-Stars, IPA, Hot Off the Range, Something and Fighting Chance. There will be a surprise special guest appearance by an island music legend. Emperor Rosko - the famed 1960s DJ whose life was portrayed in the film Pirate Radio - will emcee the festival, entertaining the crowd with his lightening-fast "jive talk" and antics.

Run over 20 miles of single track trails and ridgelines with views of the Pacific Ocean on both sides of the island. Run through a variety of eco-systems, each with unique plant and animal life.

We welcome you, the athlete, to one of the most beautiful marathons that you will ever run in the United States. The Catalina Eco Marathon will start and finish in the town of Avalon, no morning boats to catch, no seas to worry about, just a leisurely stroll to the start line and back into town after 26.2 miles of some of the most beautiful, rugged and breathtaking trails you will experience.

During the course of the marathon, you will traverse single track trails, ridgelines, and vistas that will afford views of the Pacific Ocean – from BOTH sides of the island. You will run through three entirely different eco-systems and see the plant life and animal life in each. Don't be surprised to see buffalo on the course, seals in the water, and bald eagles overhead.

The Zane Grey Invitational kicks off the series, running from Sept. 9-11, while the Avalon Billfish Classic and the Catalina Classic run simultaneously from Sept. 23-25. The format of each event is unique and attracts a wide cross section of offshore anglers. The events take place on Catalina Island, the birthplace of big-game angling and the perfect backdrop for the series. Santa Catalina Island has been immortalized on the silver screen hundreds of times. Filming on the island introduced several of Hollywood’s biggest stars to the charms of Catalina. Many celebrities worked and played on the island and often remarked that Catalina was for them an excellent getaway from Hollywood. The Catalina Island Museum’s extensive collection of photographs, which document many classic productions being filmed on the island and unique snapshots of celebrities enjoying Catalina over the years, will be features in this special exhibition.

Catalina served as the location for the most terrifying scenes from the movie Jaws and has hosted Errol Flynn, Charlie Chaplin and his wife Paulette Goddard, Cecil B. De Mille, Mickey Rooney, Johnny Weismuller, John Wayne, Clark Gable and many more over the years.
