The Catalina Eco Marathon will start and finish in the town of Avalon, no morning boats to catch, no seas to worry about, just a leisurely stroll to the start line and back into town after 26.2 miles of some of the most beautiful, rugged and breathtaking trails you will experience.
During the course of the marathon, you will traverse single track trails, ridgelines, and vistas that will afford views of the Pacific Ocean – from BOTH sides of the island. You will run through three entirely different eco-systems and see the plant life and animal life in each. Don't be surprised to see buffalo on the course, seals in the water, and bald eagles overhead.

The first Catalina Island Air Show and Festival, Commemorates the 100th anniversary of the longest over-water flight in the world at the time and the first sea landing in history in Avalon Bay. Location: off the breakwater of Avalon Bay. Enjoy a weekend full of aviation events that include both military and civilian aerobatic aircraft and concessions.


Artists from all over the country exhibit along Crescent Avenue and sell their works of fine art, sculpture, fine crafts & photography.


17th annual fundraiser featuring over 70 wineries, delectable hors d’oeuvres and smooth jazz. Net proceeds help support mentoring and scholarship programs.
The series consists of three striped marlin tournaments that attract the West Coast’s most avid fishing teams. The Zane Grey Invitational kicks off the series, running from Sept. 9-11, while the Avalon Billfish Classic and the Catalina Classic run simultaneously from Sept. 23-25. The format of each event is unique and attracts a wide cross section of offshore anglers. The events take place on Catalina Island, the birthplace of big-game angling and the perfect backdrop for the series. With its historical venue, great fishing, top-notch parties and banquets, and the biggest prize purse in California, the California Billfish Series stands out as the West Coast’s premiere offshore event.

On Saturday, March 17th we’ll be celebrating the luck of the Irish all day long from noon to midnight with Happy Hour drink specials, a hearty selection of Irish lunch and dinner specials and live Karaoke featuring you all-time favorite Irish songs at El Galleon Restaurant just down the street from Hotel Metropole.

This event will feature the exciting and historic marathon course used largely since the first year on the Catalina Island Conservancy’s lands. This includes much of the rugged terrain, spectacular vistas and special challenges enjoyed by Hans Albrecht and friends in the earliest days of the event under his management and enhanced over the years.

The Catalina Eco Marathon will start and finish in the town of Avalon. Run through three entirely different eco-systems and see the plant life and animal life in each.
We welcome you, the athlete, to one of the most beautiful marathons that you will ever run in the United States. The Catalina Eco Marathon will start and finish in the town of Avalon, no morning boats to catch, no seas to worry about, just a leisurely stroll to the start line and back into town after 26.2 miles of some of the most beautiful, rugged and breathtaking trails you will experience.
During the course of the marathon, you will traverse single track trails, ridgelines, and vistas that will afford views of the Pacific Ocean – from BOTH sides of the island. You will run through three entirely different eco-systems and see the plant life and animal life in each. Don't be surprised to see buffalo on the course, seals in the water, and bald eagles overhead.

Santa Catalina Island has been immortalized on the silver screen hundreds of times. Filming on the island introduced several of Hollywood’s biggest stars to the charms of Catalina. Many celebrities worked and played on the island and often remarked that Catalina was for them an excellent getaway from Hollywood. The Catalina Island Museum’s extensive collection of photographs, which document many classic productions being filmed on the island and unique snapshots of celebrities enjoying Catalina over the years, will be features in this special exhibition.
Catalina served as the location for the most terrifying scenes from the movie Jaws and has hosted Errol Flynn, Charlie Chaplin and his wife Paulette Goddard, Cecil B. De Mille, Mickey Rooney, Johnny Weismuller, John Wayne, Clark Gable and many more over the years.

The Avalon Billfish Classic is an all-release striped marlin tournament that is part of the California Billfish Series presented by Typhoon Polarized Optics. The Avalon Billfish Classic is fished simultaneously with the Catalina Classic, and runs from September 18-20.

For nearly 20 years, the Catalina Classic has stood out as the most prestigious big-money billfish tournament in California. As such, the Catalina Classic is the premiere event in the California Billfish Series, presented by Typhoon Polarized Optics, a three-tournament series that also includes the Avalon Billfish Classic and the Invitational. The island will be ablaze with activity during the tournament with casting competitions, a vendor village, cocktail parties, giveaways and a world-class award’s banquet held at the historic Casino building. The Invitational takes place September 11-13 in Avalon, California, on the beautiful island of Catalina. This is the first event in the California Billfish Series, presented by Typhoon Polarized Optics. The series also includes the Avalon Billfish Classic and the Catalina Classic. Dean Mora & The Avalon Ball Orchestra will play historically accurate music from the 1930s. Don’t miss this rare chance to enjoy the 1927 silent film “The Sea Hawk” starring Milton Sills, Enid Bennett and Wallace Beery with live organ accompaniment by Robert D. Salisbury in the Art Deco splendor of one of California’s last remaining movie palaces. This film is one of many classics filmed on and around Catalina Island in the 1920’s.
When Pattie Boyd was cast as an extra in the Beatles movie “A Hard Day’s Night” and met George Harrison, her life changed irrevocably and forever. “Patty Boyd: Yesterday and Today” lends an intimate view into the lives of George Harrison, Eric Clapton, The Beatles, and Pattie Boyd herself. This unique body of over 50 photographs has toured two continents and has captivated art critics wherever it has been exhibited.

This is a Master’s Rugby event (players over 40’s and over 50’s) held at the Field of Dreams. Portions of the proceeds will benefit the Wellness Community, SouthBay Cities, which provides free education and support to cancer patients, families and friends.
