Catalina Island Conservancy Hosts the Wild Side Art Show

Catalina Island Conservancy is ready to host their seventh Annual Catalina: The Wild Side Art Show. This is an event meant to support the education, recreation, and conservation programs of the conservancy. It is reported that the artworks of 10 nationally recognized air artists will be the main attraction of this year’s Wild Side Art Show. The works of these artists will be featured on October 22 and the Conservancy is expecting a heavy flow of art enthusiasts, like the previous years. Accordingly, the hotels on Catalina Island are all prepared to welcome the tourists and the art lovers who are planning to visit the island to enjoy The Wild Side Art Show.

As per the Catalina Island Conservancy, each of the artists spent time on the island creating works of art featuring the rugged wildlands, Two Harbors, and Avalon in Plein air style of drawing. This style refers to painting nature while in nature. The ten artists whose works will be on display are Brian Blood, Kathleen Dunphy, Cindy Baron, Don Demers, Debra Huse, Kim Lordier, Laurie Kersey, Ron Rencher, Michael Obermeyer, and Brian Stewart. Works of these artists will also be available for purchase.

“In their paintings, these award-winning artists capture the beauty of the Island and the work the Conservancy has done to restore and protect Catalina,” said Tony Budrovich, president and CEO of Catalina Island Conservancy. “Catalina: The Wild Side Art Show is a great opportunity to meet the artists, purchase their portraits of Catalina’s wildlands and support the Conservancy.”

In addition, to help in funding the programs of the Conservancy, the proceedings from the Plein art show will be used to support the permanent art collection of the Conservancy. The Plein art collection of the agency documents its conservation efforts and the progress of its habitat restoration projects. Most of the paintings that the agency acquired in the previous art shows are currently on display to the public at the Nature Center of the Conservancy in Avalon Canyon.

The event is scheduled for Sunday, October 22, 2017, and time for the Priority Preview and Purchases is between 01:30 to 02:30 p.m. The event takes place at the Balboa Yacht Club at Corona del Mar, and the registration to the event can be done from the website of the Catalina Island Conservancy.
